Salty Becomes a Permanent Member of the Therapy Horse Team!

Salty is a 16 year old Appaloosa cross gelding who has been on loan to the Creston and District Society for Community Living's Therapeutic Riding Program since June 2007.  He is the super star of the program.  He is very respectful of all of his riders and is also a favourite with the volunteers and instructors.

Due to circumstances, Salty’s owner decided to sell him.  Since his owner is very happy with the work that he is doing, she gave the Therapeutic Riding Program first option to buy him.  He is worth his weight in gold to the program, but his asking price was a very reasonable $800.

On December 7th, a benefit potluck was held to raise funds to purchase Salty for the program.  The program could not have anticipated the tremendous outpouring of support for Salty.  He received donations from volunteers, people who just love horses, local businesses and riders who gave their Christmas money.

"
I am just overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. It is very humbling and makes me just want to do my best for the program." said Christine Ross, the Therapeutic Riding Program's head instructor.

More money was raised than was needed to purchase Salty, so the program will set that money aside to feed and care for Salty so that he stays in top shape to help our riders.

Salty sends his thanks to everyone who supported his purchase!
